i want to make a few points.
Number 1:
What you may or may not know is that your body is the one that controls whether you NEED to be fat or not.
i read this book called The Gabriel Method (http://www.thegabrielmethod.com)a while ago and to be honest it really helped turn my life around.
so basically, when you starve yourself, your body sends out a chemical stress signal to your brain making it think that you’re in time of famine. This makes your body want to be fat because it thinks if it continues to lose weight, it’s going to die. thus making you crave food more and making everything become more flavorsome.
what many people don’t know is that when you diet, you’re fighting against your body.
so anyways. when you do break your diet and binge or eat something with slightly more fat in it you gain everything back in an instant. this is because now that you’ve starved yourself you’re body thinks that it needs to store every ounce of fat it can get so next time this happens you don’t die. so what happens is you gain back everything you’ve lost back plus more (I’m speaking from proven facts and personal experience). it’s not that your body hates you, it just thinks it’s doing the right thing.
but this also works with losing weight too. in the gabriel method he talks about how his cat was quite overweight and one day he got chased by a dog into the trees one day and was gone for a few days and when he came back he was limping a bit. after that he started to lose all this weight, no matter how much he fed him, he wouldn’t gain weight. this is because when he was chased he was too fat to get away, so he got hurt. this released a stress signal into his body letting the brain know that he needs to lose weight in order to survive. however, the only way he made his cat gain weight again was he out him on a diet and retained his food…then he started to gain weight. don’t get me wrong, this may seem slightly insane, but it worked on Jon Gabriel as well after he was chased in the park once.
so what i’m trying to say, is don’t fight against your body. work with it. i know what it’s like, trust me, i do. i’ve been to hell and back countless amounts of time..but it’s not until i began to understand what was going on that i was ready to make a change. you just have to persist…and i know it’s easier said than done.
Number 2:
the food you eat…
your body needs healthy food filled with nutrients because this satisfies your body. your body needs certain fats and sugars, like the ones you get from meats, veggies and fruit. if it doesn’t get these then it’s unsatisfied.
it’s as simple as this..
when you eat chips, cookies, ice cream, chocolate, candies etc your body doesn’t get the nutrients it needs from these, therefore it remains hungry because you haven’t satisfied it’s need. so you continue to eat bad food when really your body craves healthy food. instead of burning it up, your body stores it.
if you hate just as much healthy food whenever you wanted then you wouldn’t be as hungry and you would be satisfied more.
even when you eat something unhealthy like a cookie or something that doesn’t have healthy, natural nutrients in it, eat something like a piece of fruit with it, this way your body is still getting the food it needs and wont keep you hungry and craving.
as you continue to eat healthier you’ll begin to lose cravings for unhealthy food.
this worked for me. i don’t really eat bread anymore, i hate like coke and sprite and soda drinks and just a lot of other fatty foods just don’t appeal to me anymore.
give it a go. there’s no harm in trying.
Number 3:
when to eat what!
Eat your carbs in the morning after you work out, this is the ideal time because you’ll be able to burn them more efficiently than you would if you were to eat them at night.
you should really eat all throughout the day. foods like nuts and seeds are really healthy for you and give you the right amount of nutrients that you need. flax seeds are a really good source of omega 3s and 6s so if you’re making a salad be sure to put some on. you can grind them up, which i usually do…however, be sure to eat it within about 6 hours of grinding because it will lose it’s good source of nutrients.
if you’re eating little healthy snacks all through the day then you’re not going to be as hungry when it comes to dinner time. this is ideal, you don’t want to eat a big portion at night because it stays in your stomach all throughout the night and rather than burning it, your body will store it.
at first, when i started eating healthy snacks all throughout the day, i started to gain weight - don’t let this discourage you - it was because i would diet a lot and when i started eating normally again my body was still in “survival mode” so it stored everything. it was really hard at first, because my mind set still wasn’t in the right place. but i kept it up and i started to lose my appetite because my body was now getting satisfied. you don’t burn weight off quickly like you do when you diet but then again, you don’t gain it back as quickly either. the slower you lose weight, the better.
your body has a weight set of what it needs to be. say it wants to be 140lbs then it will do what ever it can to get to be that weight. once you’re there, you’ll stop gaining weight. you still have fat on your body though and you’re thinking “why?” well, the thing is you can change this weight set, but the only way of doing that is eating healthy and exercising. this way your body realizes that you don’t actually need all the extra weight and will start to burn it off.
the key is that you need to work with your body and the way that it’s programed in order to lose weight, not against it. this wont get you anywhere..it might in the beginning but in the end it’s not going to work out.
Number 4:
that feeling you get after you were doing really well eating healthy and you indulge on something sweet and unhealthy. don’t feel bad. It’s okay to eat something good every once in a while. you shouldn’t be restricting yourself so much that you break out all of sudden and eat away the fridge…haha i know what that’s like:P
if you do eat something and you’re like oh no! what have i done! try eating a piece of fruit or something healthy after because that way you feel like you haven’t quite quit on yourself but you have control and your allowing yourself to indulge in something every so often.
don’t think, oh well, i’ll pick it up tomorrow and just enjoy the rest of the day.
no, no, no! stop! stop while you’re ahead! this is the most common hole to fall into. tomorrow you’ll wake up and think, why the hell did i do that, cause you’ll step on the scale and be like damn it. and though your weight shouldn’t be your mood, at times it is and you’ll just be down for the rest of the day.
when i came off diets completely and just decided to live a healthier life style everything changed. at first, because it had been years since i’d actually eaten what i wanted when i wanted, i just ate everything a lot of bad food too…but after a week or 2 my body didn’t want this food, it craved healthy food. so i started to eat healthy again, not because i was forcing myself to but because i wanted to…and that feeling, that is what i had been waiting for for so long, i was just going about it all wrong. so another note, diets don’t work, you’ll lose weight then gain it back. you need to change your lifestyle. i changed mine to be healthy and because it’s been such a struggle and to overcome everything i’ve been through, alone, i don’t want others to have to take as long to realize it. that’s why i’m so passionate about this, because i want to help others who have been and who are still in a bad place and don’t know where to go. those whom think that starving themselves and restraining themselves in a good thing to do, when really it’s not. i want to be able to help because i know exactly what it’s like.
